Our school doors will open on Sat, 17th Sept at 11am and will stay wide open until 6pm! Come one, come all, entrance is free! Marvel at the Victorian engineering of one of the first purpose-built primary schools in Edinburgh. Follow the busy bee trail to ‘treasure hunt out’ more than 20 new and recent artworks by pupils and resident artists ‘hiding’ on the grounds of both school buildings! Sample the sweet and savoury baking delights of the Abbeyhill Primary School Parents in the Garden Cafe and even purchase some exclusive artworks in the Pop-up Art Shop while supporting a good cause: the next generation of artists at Abbeyhill Primary School.

Start your 11th Colony of Artists Sunday with a Scottish and Polish ‘mash up’ of bagpipes, watercolours, comics, publishing and cultural theory with resident artists Monika Szydlowska, Leighann Dudley and guest presenter Chris Byrne as part of our Polski project – a series of Polish artists-in-residencies at Abbeyhill Primary School throughout 2016 & 2017!

Our Sunday Brunch event is free to attend and you can even get your own book Do You Miss Your Country signed by Monika, the author of the Facebook phenomenon Na Emigracje (On Emigration) before you check the exhibitions at the school and remember to exit through our Pop-up Art Shop and Cafe on your way to the homes of the exhibiting artists in the Abbeyhill Colonies!
We are pleased to announce that the Abbeyhill Primary School Choir will be back for the 12th Colony of Artists in 2017 with the newly ‘appointed’ choirmaster Wayne Hamilton. The choir will be busy rehearsing throughout the academic year 2016/17. The school’s own Ukelele, Guitar and Chanter Ensembles will also provide the special support. Led by resident artists Leighann Dudley and Oliver Ridgewell, the young musicians’ ensembles will also be practicing for the 12th Colony of Artists in 2017 throughout this academic year.
The 11th Colony of Artists 2016 exhibitions and events featuring the artists’ residencies of Elisa Guietti, Dawid Gumula, Charlotte Intihar, Evelyn Jardine, Ailsa Lochhead, Anton Lukoszevieze, Clare McAllister, Catherine Payton and Monika Szydlowska at Abbeyhill Primary School throughout 2015 and 2016 were curated by Iliyana Nedkova as part of the ongoing programme for spreading the magic of contemporary art and craft into the classroom
