Kate Burwell

Kate Burwell and Lorna Brown are practicing artists – a Fine Art graduate of the University of Central Lancashire and a qualified, professional art teacher respectively.

Kate and Lorna established Awesome Folk and opened the doors of their first Awesome Folk Arts and Crafts After-School Club at Abbeyhill Primary School in 2013. The artists were joined by artist-in-residence Charlotte Intihar and throughout May and June 2014 they worked with 20 mixed aged pupils to study the work of the British artist Henry Moore (1898-1986). The Awesome Folk Arts and Crafts Club members made several Moore-inspired maquettes each. The group then voted for their favourite small model sculptures and the top four were transformed into the large-scale collaborative paper mâché installation which became Henry Moore Redux (2014).
