Throughout the academic year 2013/14 Primary 2 pupils listened to the Maisie stories in class, read the books at home and created their own portraits and stories of Maisie as part of Maisie of Abbeyhill (2014). At the end of June 2014, the entire class was up for a surprise visit by the legendary Mrs Paterson herself. Joined by Primary 1A, 1B and 3 pupils as well as the pre-school children, Primary 2 pupils were all excited to meet and greet Maisie, the original hand-held puppet who joined Mrs Paterson with a special storytelling session.  Before the story of Maisie and the Pirates (1998) came alive in the words of the author herself,  Mrs Paterson was presented with a special hand-made booklet anthology featuring Maise of Abbeyhill (2014) works. The author kindly signed an entire new set of Maisie books donated to the school library.
