Gardens are the New Galleries

Bob and Roberta Smith

Gardens are the new galleries and museums, especially amidst a pandemic as the artist and activist known as Bob and Roberta Smith has stated in his latest iconic work featured here.

Just a month after we reimagined the gardens of the Abbeyhill colony houses rather than their living rooms as the new galleries of our Colony of Artists 2020 festival, we are very pleased to welcome our first ever gardener/artist-in-residence Yolanda Mckean initially supported by a 10 Villages Community Grant. Yolanda will aim to integrate contemporary art with gardening at Abbeyhill Primary School’s outdoor classroom and share the ‘harvest’ at next year’s Colony of Artists 2021.

Follow us here and on social media for regular news and stories from Yolanda’s residency.

Thanks also to the National Lottery Community Fund for the initial ‘seeding’ support enabling us to transform our outdoor classroom at the school into a thriving, living green space for environmental art and science.
