Skating, maps and history

What do the Abbeyhill Murally People and the artists-in-residence at Abbeyhill Primary School share? A passion for skating, maps and local history?

To find out you can soon download our new map app Our Holyrood Park and explore our new street art trail – both a brand new feature of this year’s Colony of Artists Festival.

Here is the loading page of our new map app and a clue – navigate your way to Duddingston Loch on the map to travel back in time and join the Reverend Robert Walker, minister of the Canongate Kirk and a member of the Edinburgh Skating Society in 1790s. It is Walker’s pose – gliding across the frozen Duddingston Loch as captured in Sir Henry Raeburn’s portrait – that some of our artists-in-residence at the school and members of the Murally People, have referenced into one of the Colony of Artists street art trails at Bellfield Brewery on the edge of Holyrood Park.
